Ok so I tried, I really really tried…Again, where do I even begin with this book. I’ve always been a fan of fae and even demon mythology which is why I wanted to give this series a try. After reading the first book I thought ok, maybe the second book will get better because the first wasn’t really doing it for me. It’s not the story in general but the characters that are so unlikable and nauseatingly dimwitted that I just can not continue the series as interesting as it seems, which is why I only gave it 2 stars.The book is split into 2 parts the first part is Ember running from the queen (after what she did in book one) and having to deal with the fact that she destroyed Seattle then later being caught by Eli and pretty much kept prisoner till he and his pals can make a deal with this so called Unseelie King over Ember.Part 2 is Ember being found by the Unseelie King after running away from Eli because she needed someone to blame for her stupidity. And then later the king and his people train her to control her powers.Ok so part 1, I’ve officially come to terms with the fact that Ember will forever be one of those heroines that behaves like an obnoxious teenager, this is why I try not to read to many YA books because I CAN NOT stand that. She spends most of the first part of the book pining over Eli and AGAIN talks about how hot and gorgeous he is all the while he acts like more of an azz than the first book. At no part in the story does he make an attempt to act nice or considerate of her feelings of having lost everything although with all the whining she does she doesn’t make it easy. And as for Eli, don’t get me wrong I loveeee me a good bad boy… cough cough Rowan cough Rhysand *hint hint* but Eli, Wow he is just a plain jerk in every way possible. And right when he might and I mean MIGHT make some progress Ember runs away from him again for the 1,675,869,546 time only to get caught by the Unseelie King and that is where part 2 starts. REALLY!!!Part 2, I kept reading in hopes that now since she’s with the Unseelie King and she is starting to control this so called “ultimate power” she can FINALLY kick some azz, boy was I wrong. Ember is so impulsive, rude, self-righteous and yes, she continues to whine like a child and is completely oblivious to what’s going on around her and makes no attempt to try to grasp the situation, it’s just sad to watch. I had to pause my audio book several times because of the dumb decisions she makes. She not once uses this “power” she is always boosting about when she finally is confronted with the Queen. She acts all bad-azz and like she can take can of herself but she can’t AT ALL. She spends most of part 2 talking about how powerful she is and how she’s going to kick the queens butt but she is the definition of damsel in distress and always has to rely on others to bail her out of bad situations. Poor poor Torin is one of those guys she uses just for that reason. Ember needs to take a page off of Aelin from the Throne of Glass series, now that’s a bad azz character that gives 0 F****. Like I had mentioned in my previous post, I don’t know what Torins true intentions are but I like him 100 times more than I do Eli. To think that she gave up her virginity to Eli even after being treated like crap is degrading for woman, if anything she should have just stuck with Torin who is at least trying to help her and win her heart.After she got caught AGAIN by the queen, I though ok that’s it I can’t keep reading this series. She obviously didn’t learn anything all those months she was training to control her powers and lets herself get caught again by iron cuffs (always with these iron cuffs it’s just soooo predictable). That was literally the last straw for me. Maybe it’s because I’m so used to reading true bad azz female leads and male leads that I found Ember and Eli soooo lacking that I just can’t continue with this series.If anyone her is looking for a good fae series that isn’t as expensive as the Throne of Glass series that has an awesome female lead and the top of the food chain sexy as sin and true bad azz male lead, look into the “The Fae Chronicles” by Amelia Hutchins. It’s a bigggg difference, trust me!
